Goolwa Secondary College
As one of the largest regional towns in South Australia not to have a public high school offering, Goolwa Secondary College provides an anchor point for the community. It is one of four new public schools opened as part of the South Australian government’s largest education build projects.
Greenway was tasked with dramatically repurposing an existing former small private school campus into a contemporary place for learning, exploration and engagement with the ability to grow to suit the community’s needs.
Greenway set about transforming the former College, which had been closed for many years. Through judicious repurposing of the existing buildings, we created new state-of-the-art learning areas, complete with a VR ideation studio, teacher hubs, a knowledge hub, science laboratories, upgraded performing and visual arts studios, and a design and technology centre, reforming the disparate campus into a modern ‘learning village’.
A newly created statement entrance is a welcoming reception to the college and new shade structures provide linkages and focal points around the site.
Despite the challenges of building during the height of the Covid pandemic, the project was completed on time and within budget, employing a wide range of local suppliers and contractors.
