Glenunga Community Hub

Client City of Burnside Location Glenunga Reserve SA Value $5,800,000 Completion 2015

The Glenunga Community Hub is a great example of a new way to combine community and sports facilities in a single facility. High levels of consultation and community engagement showcasing the benefits of shared infrastructure and maximising the benefit for the local area, allowed Greenway to replace multiple tired old individual clubroom buildings and sheds with a fantastic single new building. The whole Reserve was redesigned, including resurfacing the existing playing fields, Little Athletics facilities, a new fitness track with outdoor exercise equipment, and a new playground.

Situated directly in the middle between two ovals, the Hub pavilion has sensational views to both the north and south playing fields with a minimalist curved roof allowing all balls to roll directly off. It creates a generous verandah for watching sport and community interaction. The building is oriented for optimal solar control, with large bi-fold doors providing excellent cross ventilation.

The City of Burnside has praised the success of the project and said the precinct will “redefine the standard of multi-purpose leisure facilities” available for use by the community.
