Band of The South Australian Police

Delivered in the face of significant budget pressures and a demanding program, the SAPOL Band project stands as a clear example of how carefully managed design and construction can deliver exceptional results. As one of only two full-time Police Bands in Australia, the unit now has a purpose-built facility that reflects both its professional stature and its unique operational requirements.

The 1,000m² building provides a comprehensive suite of spaces: highly engineered, acoustically tuned rehearsal rooms for the full band, small groups, and individual practice; secure and efficient storage for instruments and equipment; and modern workplace accommodation and amenities including offices, toilets, lockers, and meal areas.

Acoustic performance was a central priority. Through innovative but cost-aware construction techniques, the project achieved the necessary technical outcomes, with rigorous testing confirming full compliance with Australian Standards. The result is a facility that supports both performance quality and day-to-day functionality.

Located at the Gepps Cross Barracks, the Band continues to operate alongside SAPOL’s Mounted Operations Unit, maintaining strong operational links and creating opportunities for shared training.
