Edwardstown Ambulance Station

Client Dept. for Infrastructure and Transport, SA Ambulance Service and SA Health Location Edwardstown Value $9M Completion 2024

Edwardstown Ambulance Station is the latest addition to the Repat Health Precinct in Adelaide’s south-east. The $9M facility by Greenway Architects opened in September 2024. Although located in Daw Park on the corner of Daws Road and Francis Street, the facility specifically improves response time to the Edwardstown locality.

The project consists of garaging for four ambulances and two light fleet vehicles, with further garaging externally for an additional eight vehicles. Due to the compressed site, the floorplan is carefully zoned to enable quick access to the garage from all areas whilst separating different activity spaces. The administration and office zone overlooks Daws Road to the south and the on-duty paramedic zone is adjacent to the garage and outdoor courtyard, orientated to maximise northern light access. The rest areas are tucked away from the bustle of the main station, whilst still maintaining strong connectivity to the garage via two arterial corridors.

The building’s unique location in the historical Repat Precinct seeks to tie in with the existing context and landscape design found throughout the site. The locally sourced brickwork pays homage to existing heritage elements located next door, with simple brickwork pattern details elevating the aesthetic of the humble ambulance station.

Access to natural light and external views is a high priority for SAAS to help improve staff comfort. Feature windows frame views from the station, and angle noise-sensitive spaces away from busy roadways. The addition of a series of skylights provides further natural illumination, particularly to the study which Is located centrally in the building.

Edwardstown Ambulance Station stands proudly on the corner of the Repat site, a visual reminder and reinforcement of the important work SAAS carry out everyday to save people’s lives.
