The Jamie Larcombe Centre

Client SA Health Location Glenside Value $15M Completion 2017

The Jamie Larcombe Centre at Glenside is a new state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing care for those experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  This centre is primarily dedicated to provide the best possible care for Veterans of all ages as well as First Responders but has a broader role as a ‘Centre for Excellence’. The facility includes an Outpatient service, Ambulatory service, an Inpatient unit with 24 beds and research centre.

The proposal for the site involved using the previous Intermediate Care Facility which was located at the southern end of the site. The new building and the existing building are linked together, to create a single building for the new facility with extensive landscaped garden areas for retreat or socializing. A small heritage listed building on the site was integrated into the project as the Partnerships Hub providing linkages and follow up as an adjunct to the main services.

A very conscious effort was directed at making the environment as comfortable and homelike as possible, not clinical or institutional with all patient spaces having garden views and high levels of natural light.

Since completion the facility has received considerable praise including that it sets a new benchmark in mental health design.
