Strathalbyn Ambulance Station
The Strathalbyn Ambulance Station is one a series of new ambulance stations being rolled out across South Australia to replace the client’s aging operational facilities. The new station provides crewing and garaging for up to four ambulances and one light fleet vehicle, with a high level of amenities for staff and volunteers to enjoy.
Located on the outskirts of Strathalbyn, the site is well placed to enable quick response times to regional hot spots and better service the growing population of the Alexandrina and Fleurieu regions. The layout of the building also seeks to enhance paramedic response times, with high-activity spaces located close to the garage. Designed in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility integrates improved infection control strategies through careful materials selection, placement of handwash basins and separation of ‘clean’ spaces.
The landscaping responds to the surrounding environment with water-sensitive planting selections, providing outdoor break-out space for improved staff wellbeing. The interior colour scheme reflects the surrounding landscape and counterpoints to the clinical environments typical of hospitals or medical centres. This approach allows paramedics to focus on their education administrative tasks or relax between call-outs.
The facility began operating early in 2023 and has been happily received by staff and volunteers.
