Southern Fleurieu Health Service
A significant redevelopment of the existing Hospital at Victor Harbor, the project incorporates a new combined entry and reception area for the general Hospital right in the heart of the site and a new primary health care building replacing several tired old and out-of-date structures. The new building form is broken into three north-east facing volumes with a dynamic new entrance canopy. The alignment of the new structures sought the most efficient use of the tight site and allows for easy future expansion and connections.
Fourteen flexible consulting rooms are provided across three zones; a Clinic Zone for minor procedures and clinical consults, a Wellbeing zone for mental health and dietary advice, and a Therapy Zone for Physio, OT and Child Therapy. These are all supported by a large flexible Gymnasium and Group Rooms used for meetings, seminars, teaching as well as casual drop in spaces. The high-ceilinged Therapy Gymnasium provides some bulk and scale to the physical massing, while the colourful sun-shading brings vibrancy and a friendliness to the facade, while also addressing solar control to the North-east orientation of the new building.
The Southern Fleurieu Health Service is yet another example of a complex highly-serviced and staged construction project (all services were maintained during construction) delivered with more facilities than the original brief, and under-budget.
