The proposed new building establishes a combined entry and reception area for the new primary health care precinct and the existing Hospital buried in the heart of the site, while leaving the eastern section of the site available for carparking and future expansion. The form is broken into three north-east facing volumes with the main entry facing towards Harbour View Terrace. The alignment of the new volumes is the most efficient use of the tight site and allows for easy future expansion and connections.
Fourteen flexible consulting rooms are provided across three zones; a Clinic Zone for minor procedures and clinical consults, a Wellbeing zone for mental health and dietary advice, and a Therapy Zone for Physio, OT and Child Therapy. These will be supported by a large flexible gym and Group Rooms which are multipurpose spaces that can be used for meetings, seminars, teaching as well as casual drop in spaces. The adjoining rooms have an operable wall divider to allow the spaces to be combined so that a large space can be created. The group rooms also access an internal private courtyard for outdoor activities.
Although the new entry is in the best position for the internal flow of clients, it is set back from the street to provide for a drop-off driveway off the new main carpark, hiding it behind the existing IMVS building. To overcome this issue a feature canopy is proposed to provide a visual link from Harbour View Terrace, and to shelter the drop-off zone. The Therapy Gym provides some physical massing and formal scale, while the colourful sun-shading brings vibrancy and a human scale to the facade, while also addressing the North-east orientation of the new building.
