The Port Pirie GP Plus Health Care Centre responds to the complex needs of the community with the main focus of improving health outcomes. The layout wraps flexible consulting rooms and multipurpose meeting spaces around generous internal courtyards, providing natural light and ventilation to all areas, delivering a family friendly and community oriented facility with high green credentials. The mass is broken into three residential scale north-oriented volumes with a triptych of folded facades activating the streetscape. The main entry is setback from the street to provide for a drop off driveway and covered access ramp, as the floor has been elevated for flood mitigation. A central spine running between the internal courtyards provides access to the Therapy, Wellbeing and Clinic consultant zones. Two private, secure, sun filled and landscaped courtyards extend the scope of services to outdoor therapy specifically tailored to children or adult needs, with a third courtyard for Staff use. A large therapy gym can be accessed through either the well-being or clinic zones, and it opens onto its own consulting courtyard. The solution represents excellent value for money with a footprint in excess of that briefed delivered well under budget.
