Having looked around Adelaide for their ideal house and found nothing the client decided to renovate their existing local character maisonette to create the space they need for their growing family, with a view to making it their long term residence. The existing two-bedroom house had a small kitchen and living space with a tiny bathroom and lean-to laundry cutting off access to the rear and (unusual triangle-shaped) side yard
Greenway's concept for the new addition is based around maximising the north-facing aspect with the new open plan kitch/dining/living area replacing the old leanto/ carport, with large sliding doors opening out onto the side yard. The study and laundry separate this new space from a smaller more efficient carport, and the new wet areas (ensuite and bathroom) replace the old kitchen. The roof for the new addition pops up to allow north light and ventilation into the new living, and create a second living or home theatre space on the upper floor. A drop in basement cellar completes the project.
