The existing All Hallows facility has been operational for a number of years but limited by the increasing demand for dementia beds. As a consequence Anglicare SA decided to construct a new dementia ward linked to the existing building. Sarah Constructions engaged Greenway Architects as part of the design and construction team appointed by Trice to undertake the new building work for Anglicare SA.
A small site, compliance with strict nursing home guidelines and a tight budget gave Greenway the opportunity to design a 14 bedroom facility complete with nurse's station, pan room, kitchen and living and dining spaces. Adding to the project complexity, Greenway was able to incorporate an Allied Health centre and a clubroom to serve the Independent Living Units.
To create the best possible outcome for Anglicare, Greenway undertook significant research and investigation into dementia and responses in the built environment and working in close association with the new manager of the facility to introduce some new ideas into the facility to make life easier for the residents and ultimately the staff who must manage the residents.
The project was completed in November 2014 after a very compressed timeframe - both for design and documentation as well as construction.
